The Government of Canada has put forward funding towards a one of a kind proposal, The National Cultural Brokers Project, and as one of its partner organizations Manitoba Possible was involved in its inception.

As the Digital Communications Coordinator, my role involved not only my past experience in digital marketing, communications, and content creation, but also project management, budgeting, strategic public relations, and adult education tools.

Manitoba Possible. is an organization that works towards eliminating barriers to full and equal participation for Manitobans with disabilities. The project was part of their Newcomer Navigation program, that works with immigrants and settlement services. Other partners to the project include Laurentian University and various other settlement facilitation organizations across the country.

The Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada funded the project called the National Cultural Brokers Project and I was involved in the development of a new Digital Learning Network, a first of its kind adult educational platform in Canada. The purpose of this project is to support Cultural Brokers and promote the practice of cultural brokering nationally to make Canada a more equitable and inclusive country.

The Process of Creating the Digital Learning Network

  1. Developing a Comprehensive Plan for Digital Learning

    • Develop and implement communications, marketing and social media strategies to strengthen and expand cultural brokers’ connections, uptake of the project activities and access to the DLN.

    • Met with project partners to plan genesis and evolvement of the online network.

  2. Strategic Mission and Goals

    • Understand the purpose of cultural brokerage and implement that comprehension to the preparation of training modules, curriculums, webinars and conferences.

    • Promote the practice of cultural brokerage through digital and social platforms.

  3. Involving Stakeholders

    • Hire and collaborate with a Branding and PR Agency and a Web Developer to implement our Marketing goals and objectives. Direct involvement in logo design, web aesthetics, and branding strategy.

    • Attend seminars, conferences, and workshops to promote the project and recruit members.

  4. Monitoring Implementation and Measuring Success

    • Evaluate the DLN and social media accounts, collects and analyzes metrics of users to improve content and access and makes improvements to increase usership and expand scope of the website.

    • Meet with IRCC represent to conduct progress on the project.
